CLOGGED DUCTS & MASTITIS
Clogged Milk Duct Treatment in Alpharetta, GA
A clogged milk duct hurts, and it can't wait until Monday. WellWomanPT treats clogged ducts with therapeutic ultrasound and lymphatic massage, with evening and weekend appointments so you can get relief fast and keep feeding your baby.
Signs of a clogged duct
A firm, tender lump or wedge in the breast
A spot that stays full or sore after feeding or pumping
Redness or warmth over one area
When to call your doctor instead
Call your doctor or midwife the same day if you have a fever, chills, flu-like aches, or red streaks spreading across the breast. These can be signs of mastitis that needs medical treatment. We work alongside your provider and can treat the duct once you're seen.
How we treat clogged ducts
Therapeutic ultrasound uses gentle sound waves to reduce localized swelling and congestion, and lymphatic massage moves fluid and swelling out of the breast. Most visits also cover positioning, pumping and a home plan so it doesn't come back.
How many visits?
Three: one hour-long visit the first day, and two visits the following day.
Common questions
Can I bring my baby?
Yes. Nursing or expressing milk as soon as possible after your treatment is recommended.
Does ultrasound affect my milk?
No. Non-thermal ultrasound does not affect milk.
Do I need a referral?
No. Georgia allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can book without a referral.
Do you take insurance?
We do not work directly with insurance companies, but we provide superbills (receipts) to all our clients, which they can submit for reimbursement. Physical therapy services can be covered under out-of-network benefits and FSA accounts, though most patients prefer to pay cash. We are unable to see Medicare and Medicaid patients: federal and state law requires them to use in-network providers, and they are not allowed to go out of network or pay cash for physical therapy.
Do you see patients from outside Alpharetta?
Yes. Mothers come to us from up to an hour away, including Cumming, Johns Creek, Milton and across Forsyth County.
